The government of Vietnam has asked more members of the international community to support Somalia.
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, who heads Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, stated this in his recent address before the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Quy spoke while addressing the UNSC on August 20.
He urged the international community to lend Somalia more support as the East African nation strives to cope with the increasing humanitarian crises.
Furthermore, he mentioned the socio-economic challenges the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) continues struggling to solve.
Ambassador Quy reminded the international community of the numerous challenges the country has been grappling with in 2020.
He cited the COVID-19 pandemic, which has so far killed 93 people in the country.
Moreover, Ambassador also mentioned the waves of locust invasion Somalia has grappled with since late last year and the floods that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
Ambassador Quy reminded the international community that Somalia is not out of the woods with regard to terror attacks, especially from Al-Shabaab and Islamic State extremists.
