Health workers in Somaliland have embraced the spirit of volunteerism as the country battles the ravaging COVID-19.
The Director of Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee (HAVOYOCO), Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan, says that his organization has already trained tens of health workers.
HAVOYOCO has already trained the first batch of health workers.
The first batch of trainees, which involved 16 workers, volunteered together with hundreds more who now await their turn.
HAVOYOCO expects to train the workers on COVID-19 treatment and testing. Further, the training seeks to make them effective at raising awareness of the virulent disease.
Post-training, the health workers would then volunteer to the markets, IDP camps, and restaurants to talk to people about COVID-19.
Abdullahi also said, “The workers would then work four days each week. We are to equip them with not only a work plan but also all tools necessary for their work.”
Somaliland government has instituted several measures designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the country down.
It has also appealed to the public to observe the guidelines put in place by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to curb the spread of the disease.
