VP Eid, Turkish Envoy Discuss Hobyo Port and Investment Opportunities

Vice President of Galmudug State, Ali Dahir Eid, held a high-level meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, to explore collaborative infrastructure development and investment opportunities in the region. The talks, held on Thursday in Dhusamareb, focused on advancing key projects such as the construction of Hobyo Port, the rehabilitation of road networks, and the expansion of regional airports.

Both sides emphasized the strategic importance of Hobyo Port in strengthening trade, enhancing economic integration, and creating jobs across Galmudug and beyond. VP Eid underscored the regional administration’s commitment to facilitating such transformative projects and highlighted recent security gains that have created a more stable environment for foreign investment.

Ambassador Aktaş expressed Türkiye’s continued support for Somalia’s development agenda and welcomed Galmudug’s efforts to attract private sector investors. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s interest in supporting critical infrastructure and service delivery, noting that improved security and governance in the region make it more attractive for Turkish companies.

The two leaders agreed to establish a joint framework to monitor project implementation and to organize an investment forum aimed at connecting Turkish investors with Galmudug’s emerging sectors, including energy, construction, logistics, and fisheries.

The meeting is part of a broader effort by both governments to deepen bilateral cooperation and ensure that development assistance translates into tangible benefits for Somali communities.
