Traders at Waaheen Market in Hargeisa have received $6.7 million from the Somaliland government for losses suffered from the recent terrible fire disaster.
Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail Zeyli’i, the Vice President of Somaliland, disbursed the funds to the traders on May 1.
The market went up in flames on April 1, 2022.

The government had already disbursed the first round of financial assistance.
In the first round, the government disbursed $1,872,511 to around 988 traders on April 17, 2022.
In this round, the funds would benefit 1,016 traders whose losses range from $5,001 to $480,000.
Somaliland’s business community had pledged $8 million.
The European Union (EU) pledged $100,000 while Taiwan promised to release $500,000 to help the traders.
