Wadani Party has accused the government of Somaliland of frustrating telecom firms perceived to be against President Muse Bihi Abdi’s administration.
Bashir Abdi Harir, the party’s Planning secretary who also doubles as the Shadow Minister of Planning, made these claims during a press conference on Wednesday.
Harir said, “These accusations are factual. Therefore, we ask the government, especially Kulmiye Party, on whose ticket Bihi was elected president, to come clean on this issue.”
He cited the recent directive by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to restrict cable TV operators to run a maximum of six channels.
The Wadani Party official asked, “How are telecoms expected to operate efficiently, competitively, and profitably under such an environment of uncertainties?”
Specifically, Harir mentioned the selective application of the law to firms deemed to be against the government.
