Mohamed Abdullahi Omar, the acting District Commissioner of Wanlaweyne, was killed in a grenade attack at his home on Sunday.
Omar also served as the Deputy Finance Chief in the district.
The attack, which was carried out at around 8pm, left several people injured. Reports indicate that many children were injured during the attack.
According to local authorities and witnesses, armed men attacked Omar’s home on Sunday night before shooting him dead.
While fleeing, they threw a grenade at the home thus injuring five people in the process. Some of the five who were seriously injured are in hospital receiving medical attention.
