Somalia’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has jointly launched a project with UNICEF Somalia to provide residents of Beletweyne with safe and clean water.
The ministry and UNICEF have launched water-trucking services in the region together with WARDI, a local non-government organization (NGO).
According to the three partners, the project is part of the measures put in place to provide humanitarian assistance to victims of flooding in the region.
Beletweyne is one of the regions in the country most affected by floods, which have been relentless following months of heavy rains.
Floodwaters have made it impossible for residents to access safe and clean water for their daily use.
Last week, international organizations in the country announced that the country was likely to experience heavy rainfall in the last quarter of the year.
