National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has termed reports by Kenya media that it has been financing Al-Shabaab to attack Kenya Defense Forces as both “misleading” and “false.”
The scathing allegations by Kenyan media threatened the improving relations between Mogadishu and Nairobi after months of diplomatic rows.
As per the report, NISA had not only financed Al-Shabaab with a cheque of $1.5 million but also sent it intelligence reports on the best targets to attack along the Somalia-Kenya border.
Specifically, the report showed that NISA gave the Al-Qaeda linked group details of KDF’s operations in AMISOM zones.
In a rebuttal that the Ministry of Information and Culture issued from Mogadishu, the Federal Government of Somalia rubbished that controversial report.
FGS termed the reports “smear campaigns” and “malicious attacks” carried out with the intention of soiling its reputation and that of its agencies.
A fact worth noting is that NISA sends its operatives to Nairobi for training before commissioning them all around Somalia.
