Al-Shabaab has said it killed seven soldiers of Somali National Army (SNA) after an attack launched to recapture Janaale Town, which it lost to government troops last week.
The militia group said it conducted the attack in retaliation for losing one of its most important towns in Somalia.
On Monday last week, troops from SNA, Danab Special Force, and Gorgor Special Force worked closely with AMISOM and United States military to take Janaale from Al-Shabaab’s control.
Janaale, which is an agricultural-rich town, fell into the hands of the government troops a week ago. Al-Shabaab never took the news well.
Yesterday, it detonated a bomb on the outskirts of Janaale. From that explosion, seven troops lost their lives. It also left several soldiers with different types of wounds.
A media outlet that Al-Shabaab uses in proxy released this news on behalf of the militants. The Al-Qaeda linked group used Janaale as the center for collecting millions dollars in Zakat.
