The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for drastic measures early enough to save lives from the ongoing drought in Somalia.
WHO issued a statement on this matter on Sunday, July 24.
It reiterated the overriding view that Somalia is on the brink of one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the country’s history.
More than 7.1 million people in Somalia are at risk of starvation and famine.
In its statement, the global health body says that inaction by different stakeholders can lead to more deaths.
At the moment, WHO believes that such deaths are preventable.
However, this could change at any moment unless urgent measures are taken to mitigate the effects of the ongoing drought.
