WHO to Organize More COVID-19 Vaccination Posts in Somalia

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced plans to increase the number of COVID-19 vaccination posts in Somalia.

The organization announced these plans on Wednesday, August 18.

In a press statement that it released, WHO commended the arrival of 302,400 vaccines from Johnson & Johnson in the East African nation.

The health organization stated that it would work closely with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Somalia’s Ministry of Health to ensure that more high-risk people get vaccinated.

To achieve this, WHO said that together with UNICEF and the health ministry, it intends to establish more fixed and outreach posts around the country.

“We intend to increase the speed and scale at which high-risk populations in Somalia get vaccinated,” said Rahman Malik, WHO’s Representative to Somalia.

Malik went on to say that the vaccine must reach all people equally regardless of where they live.

Currently, Somalia has confirmed over 16,300 COVID-19 cases. More than 850 people have lost their lives to the deadly disease since the first case was reported in March, 2020.
