Several women Members of Parliament (MPs) in Somalia have joined the civil society in demanding for the immediate tabling of the Sexual Offences Bill (SOB) in parliament for debate by legislators.
The MPs met with representatives of the civil society on Saturday, September 19.
During their meeting, they reminded parliamentarians that delay in debating and passing the SOB 2018 Bill is detrimental to the welfare of women and young girls in the country.
Consequently, members of the House of Representatives (Lower House) were urged to include the Bill in their agenda for debate. The women MPs and civil society groups condemned the ongoing incitement to violence by political leaders around the country.
