WorldRemit has announced plans to continue operating in Somaliland and serving its loyal customers despite the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
Further, the company has promised to start charging clients a flat rate of $1 for all transactions immediately regardless of the amounts involved.
In the past, WorldRemit has charged customers $1.99 for those transacting $100 and $2.99 for amounts of up to $200.
Additionally, clients sending $1,000 have been paying $5.99 in transaction fees.
WorldRemit is responsible for 34 percent of all remittances done via some of Africa’s most popular mobile money services such as M-Pesa, MTN, E-Dahab, and EcoCash among others.
In Somaliland, just as it is the case in Somalia and other African nations, remittances by its citizens who are in the diaspora are a source of foreign exchange.
