Aden, Yemen – Yemen and Somalia have agreed to deepen collaboration in maritime and air transport, commerce, and regional security, marking a significant step toward strengthening ties between the two neighboring nations. The understanding was reached during a meeting in Aden between Yemeni Minister of Transport Dr. Abdisalam Hamid and Somali Ambassador to Yemen Abdulhakim Mohamed.
The talks focused on revitalizing cooperation in vital sectors that connect the two countries across the Gulf of Aden, a strategic maritime corridor that serves as a lifeline for regional trade. Both officials underscored the importance of enhancing port management, improving air connectivity, and facilitating the movement of goods and passengers between the two nations.
Dr. Hamid praised Somalia’s efforts to expand its transport infrastructure and reaffirmed Yemen’s readiness to share technical expertise and experience in aviation and port operations. Ambassador Abdulhakim, for his part, said Somalia values Yemen’s long-standing partnership, emphasizing that both countries face shared challenges such as smuggling, illegal fishing, and maritime insecurity.
The two sides pledged to coordinate closely in combating cross-border criminal networks and regional threats that have affected the safety of shipping routes in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Officials agreed that improved coordination between maritime and aviation authorities would not only enhance security but also promote trade and economic growth for both nations.
The meeting in Aden reaffirmed the historical friendship between Yemen and Somalia, built on cultural ties and mutual support. As both nations continue to recover from years of conflict and instability, their renewed cooperation signals a determination to harness their shared geography and maritime potential for regional stability and prosperity.
