In a landmark event for the capital, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Isaak Mohamud Mursal inaugurated the seventh Youth Resilience Conference in Mogadishu this Saturday. This marks the first time the edition has been held in the city, a move officials say signals Somalia’s increasing stability and commitment to youth-led national recovery.
Empowering the Next Generation
During the two-day gathering, Hon. Mursal highlighted the indispensable role of Somali youth—both at home and in the diaspora—as vital actors in the country’s rehabilitation. The conference, organized by the Diaspora Affairs Department and the Mideynta Community Service Organization, focuses on several key areas of development:
-
Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Youth-driven technological advancements in healthcare and education.
-
Peace & Governance: Expanding civic engagement and promoting peace consolidation.
-
Environmental Action: Initiatives aimed at long-term sustainability.
-
Knowledge Transfer: Leveraging the skills and investments of diaspora members returning to contribute to local programs.
Strengthening Democratic Foundations
Beyond youth engagement, the Deputy Minister connected the conference’s goals to broader political reforms. He noted that Somalia is actively reinforcing institutional frameworks and pursuing transparent electoral systems to build a more accountable and democratic political structure.
The conference serves as a platform for young leaders, civil society, and government officials to transform innovative ideas into concrete developmental programs. By bridging the gap between local populations and the global Somali community, organizers aim to foster a collaborative environment that addresses the unique challenges facing the nation’s youth.
