11 Somalis Stranded in Iran Evacuated

Eleven Somalis who have been stranded in Iran for months because of COVID-19 restrictions have been evacuated.

They traveled back to Somalia on Sunday.

Somalia’s Ambassador to Iran, Mohamed Hussein Aboukar Awliyo, said they left Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport for Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on Sunday.

Ambassador Awliyo stated that more evacuations would be carried out after Somalia lifted the ban on international flights, which had made such exercises impossible.

A few prisoners were among the eleven Somalis repatriated on Sunday.
