Police in Somalia have arrested 11 suspects for raping and killing a 19-year old girl in Mogadishu on Friday last week.
On Tuesday, police issued a press statement informing the public of the progress of the investigations that were launched over the weekend on the shocking incident.
According to the authorities, 11 suspects are now in custody.
A male friend allegedly invited Hamdi Mohamed Farah, the 19-year old girl, to a building in Mogadishu’s Waberi district.
While there, Hamdi was brutally raped before being thrown out of the six-storey building.
Residents were shocked at the incident and immediately took to the streets over the weekend to protest Hamdi’s rape and murder.
Police are yet to release the identities of the suspects who are in custody.
