14 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Qoryoley Attack

Al-Shabaab militants attacked military bases in the Lower Shabelle region. During the attack, government troops killed 14 fighters of the terrorist group. The dead militias left their weapons behind.

The first of the twin attacks occurred at the military base in Ceel Salini. It is 55 kms to the southwest of Mogadishu. Somalia National Army repulsed the attackers before killing nine of them.

Ismail Muktar, a government spokesperson, says, “Al-Shabaab wanted to make the bases insecure. Instead, they suffered untold losses and casualties. Government forces killed six militias, as three others blew themselves up.”

Additionally, Al-Shabaab also attacked a military base in Qoryoley District, Lower Shabelle Region. Somalia military and peacekeeping forces from the African Union use the base.

Governor Ibrahim Adan says, “Government forces killed five Al-Shabaab militias during the attack. Afterward, they confiscated a ton of weapons, which included a BKM rifle.”

Later, Somali military’s successful counteroffensive freed four civilians from the terrorists.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the twin attacks. They said they killed over 20 soldiers. The militants also crippled four armed forces’ vehicles and seized several military wares.
