Members of the Somali Journalists’ Syndicate (SJS) Executive Committee held talks with the British Ambassador to Somalia.
The SJS Executive Committee’s meeting with Ambassador Kate Foster took place in Mogadishu on January 29.
During their meeting, they discussed media freedom in Somalia.
They also spoke about the challenges that affect journalists in Somalia.
Journalists in the East African nation experience some of the worst actions from government officers at the regional and federal levels.
They are often arrested, detained without charges, harassed, threatened with arrest and death, and even killed.
At the meeting, Mohamed Bulbul, SJS’ Information and Human Rights Secretary, gave a copy of the organization’s State of Press Freedom 2021 in Somalia to Ambassador Foster.
