Authorities in HirShabelle State have erected a 2km Flood Defense Embankment in the region.
The embankment was put up on December 30.
Officials from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the local HirShabelle State administration attended the opening ceremony on Thursday.
The embankment is situated at Helikeliyo, HirShabelle.
Sources indicate that the embankment cost US$1.1 million to construct.
The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development initiated the project with the support of the Norwegian Embassy in Somalia.
