Indian has announced plans to evacuate 33 citizens who are currently stuck in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu.
India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement showing its commitment to evacuate the citizens who have been stranded in the East African nation’s capital for close to a year.
The foreign affairs ministry said that it has already arranged to evacuate the first batch of 10 citizens.
Anurag Srivastava, the foreign affairs ministry’s spokesperson, said the Indian citizens were stranded after their Somali employers refused to pay them for the last 10 months.
Srivastava said that the government had negotiated with the employers to pay the workers their pending salaries.
Further, the employers agreed to work with the government of India to facilitate travel arrangements for any of the 33 citizens who wish to return home.
