428 Somali Children Have Died Since Onset of Drought

The latest figures from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) indicate that children are the majority of the people who have died since the onset of the ongoing drought.

According to the government, 466 people have died around the country.

Out of those, 428 are children.

The latest government report blames drought as the primary cause of the deaths. However, it also cites drought-related diseases for killing both adults and children.

Different organizations have continuously appealed for intervention by the international community.

Lately, the Catholic Church’s Pope Francis has also added his voice in calling for urgent humanitarian assistance in Somalia.
