National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) organized training for 45 journalists in Jubbaland on how to report on sexual and gender-based violence.
NUSOJ facilitated the training with assistance from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Somalia’s Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development.
The training is essential since Somalia is currently experiencing a surge in the number of SGBV cases.
Stakeholders believe that the media could be a very important ally in the fight against SGBV in Somalia; hence the need for equipping journalists with skills that equip them to report it accurately.
Similar trainings have been carried out in various parts of the country with the collaboration of various journalists’ organizations.
The Jubbaland training took place on Friday, October 23 in Kismayo.
