The Federal Government of Somalia has recorded 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, according to a report released by the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, also confirmed that the country had not recorded any new COVID-19 death.
Furthermore, she gave a breakdown of areas where the new cases were reported. Banadir led with 26 while Southwest state had 9 cases.
Puntland and Somaliland had eight and six cases respectively. Out of these new cases, 38 were male while the remaining 11 were women.
Additionally, Dr. Nur said the new cases bring the number of COVID-19 patients in the country to 1,219 while the deaths stand at 52.
She also clarified that the absence of community awareness has led to a surge in the number of cases around the country.
Dr. Nur indicated that the government plans to expand community screening further while providing Federal Member States with additional tools to curb the spread of the disease.
