A non-governmental organization (NGO) has warned of the number of children from Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia who are currently in danger of acute malnutrition.
Save the Children issued the warning on Monday, April 25.
According to the organization, close to 5.7 million children could be victims of acute malnutrition.
The organization blames this on several factors including failed rains.
Poor rains in consecutive seasons have worsened the situation in the Horn of Africa region thus causing one of the worst droughts in 40 years.
Save the Children found that 14 million people in the three East African countries face acute malnutrition.
Sadly, the situation portends terrible news for young children.
With food prices shooting through the roof and a lack of funds to help those in need, Save the Children believes that the situation could worsen in the coming weeks.
