Five children from the same family were killed in the two-day clashes in Baled Hawo between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) troops and Jubbaland forces.
According to multiple sources, the children were in their home as the clashes started and intensified.
On Monday, their house was hit by a mortar shell.
The shell exploded thus causing the house to go up in flames thus leading to the deaths of the five young children.
These five children were among the 11 people killed in Baled Hawo, which is in Gedo region, since the clashes broke out on January 24.
Close to 24 other people were injured. Out of those, 20 who suffered severe injuries were airlifted to Mogadishu for further treatment.
On Tuesday, an uneasy calm returned to the region as the government said that it was now back in full control.
