60 People Killed in Somalia’s Inter-Clan Conflict

Since December 2019, over 60 people have lost their lives in fierce inter-clan battles in Somalia. Latest reports show that the number has puzzled security forces in the country.

The administration of President Mohamed Farmaajo has implemented various measures designed to restore peace in the Horn of Africa nation.

Nevertheless, reports that tens of people have been killed in inter-clan conflicts could derail all those efforts.

A militia has terrorized civilians in Lower Shabelle, Dinsor Town, and Wanlawayn Town. The latter is the worst hit.

Government bureaucrats have employed a collective effort to quell tensions in the region.

Mostly, factors such as vicious use of land, economic marginalization, and traditional political grudges ferment the conflicts.

In Lower Juba, the conflicts led to the death of 30 people. Twenty-four individuals lost their lives in the Wanwalyn skirmishes.

At least seven people were killed in Dinsor Town, Bay Region when hostilities between different clans evolved into a full-fledged fight.
