Dr. Fawziya Abikar, Somalia’s Minister of Health, announced 62 new cases of COVID-19 in the country thus raising the total to 390.

The minister said two more patients succumbed to the virulent disease to raise the number of people who have died of COVID-19 to 18.

Further, Dr. Abikar announced that two more Somalis have recovered, which increases the total recoveries to 10.

The news comes at a time when the country faces unanswered questions on the sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the Horn of Africa nation.

Somalia’s healthcare system is renowned for the fragile state it is in.

President Farmaajo’s administration has announced various measures designed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

This week, his administration announced a further extension of curfew hours in the capital, which start at 7pm to 5am each day.

Somalia has also closed its schools, including religious schools. Large gatherings remain banned while all international and domestic flights are suspended.
