A foetus that has been dead in its mother’s womb for the last seven years was finally removed successfully.
Several surgeons worked together to ensure that the mother could finally find reprieve from the ordeal that has faced her over the last seven years.
The surgical operation to remove the dead foetus was carried out at Mogadishu’s Benadir Hospital.
Isha Adan Mohamed, the 45-year old mother who has carried the dead foetus in her womb all this time, was successfully operated on by the team of Somali surgeons.
She had traveled from Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland, for the past two days to make her way to the Mogadishu hospital for the surgery.
Isha said that she has been to many hospitals in Kismayo without much success.
The Jubbaland mother underwent the successful surgical operation on February 8.
Dr. Hashi Abdulkadir, one of the doctors who operated on Isha, said that the operation was a huge success.
He also confirmed that the dead foetus was male.
Dr. Abdulkadir hailed the teamwork exhibited by the team of doctors to diagnose the cause of Isha’s swollen stomach first before carrying out the operation.
