9 People Die as Al-Shabaab Raids Mogadishu’s Afrik Hotel

At least nine people died on January 31 when Al-Shabaab militants attacked Afrik Hotel in Mogadishu.

Security authorities confirmed that nine people lost their lives in Sunday’s deadly attack.

More than 10 others were wounded and taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Reports on the casualties were confirmed after police officers ended a siege that lasted close to eight hours.

Police reported that four militants carried out the hours-long siege at the hotel that is near Aden Adde International Airport.

The hotel is quite popular with past and present government officials.

Mohamed Nur Galal, a former commander of the Somali military was among the nine people who lost their lives.
