A Deal Reportedly Imminent in the FMS-FGS Talks in Mogadishu

Reports from multiple sources in Mogadishu indicate that a deal is imminent in the ongoing talks between Federal Member States and Federal Government of Somalia on elections.

Representatives from the two sides have been meeting in the nation’s capital to discuss issues surrounding the upcoming elections.

Two of the most contentious issues have been electoral model and the timeline or date for the elections.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the leaders had not reached any agreement on the most contentious issues.

However, on Thursday, sources stated that the leaders are about to agree on various issues.

On Wednesday, the leaders held a lengthy session at Villa Somalia that lasted from dawn to midnight.

According to the insiders, the leaders are yet to finalize any agreement on the role that the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) would play in the elections.
