Adam Abdelmoula sent a message of congratulations to Khadija Mohamed Dirie on her appointment as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in Somalia.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble announced Dirie as the new humanitarian affairs minister while releasing the list of his new cabinet on Monday, October 19.
On Thursday, Abdelmoula, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, said he looks forward to working closely with the new humanitarian affairs minister.
Furthermore, he stated his hope that the UN and the Federal Government of Somalia would enhance close cooperation in addressing Somalia’s triple threats.
This year, Somalia is grappling with the triple threats of the COVID-19 pandemic, desert locust invasion, and floods.
These threats have created a huge humanitarian crisis while rendering many Somalis homeless and unable to earn a living.
Abdelmoula assured Dirie of his commitment to solve Somalia’s humanitarian challenges holistically to yield durable solutions.
