Abdishakur Says Current Somalia Drought is Worse Than 2011

Abdirahman Abdishakur has called the current drought in Somalia worse than the one the country experienced in 2011.

Abdishakur, who President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently appointed the Special Envoy for Drought Response, spoke to the media on this on Friday, May 27.

Consequently, he has issued a rallying call to the local and international partners to come to Somalia’s aid.

In the past decade, Somalia has experienced three severe droughts.

The first one occurred in 2011/12, followed by another in 2016/17 before the current one came to the fore.
