Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) has received a newly rehabilitated clinic in Afgoye town after five months of intense construction work on the facility.
Constructors demolished the initial facility with help from an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
SRCS says the new facility will now help provide locals with excellent healthcare services.
Following months of reconstruction, the clinic now boasts of more space for patients. Its sewage, water, and all electrical systems have undergone massive improvement too.
Jamal Saed, the Secretary of SRCS Merca branch, and Mohamed Abdi Warsame, who is SRCS’s Deputy Executive Director, opened the clinic.
Several leaders also attended the opening ceremony. These include community leaders, a delegation from ICRC Mogadishu, and religious scholars.
Saed said SRCS will manage the clinic, which serves the people of Afgoye town and the surrounding villages.
Each year, over 18,000 people from the local community visit the clinic for outpatient medical services.
The clinic also caters to the medical needs of families from over 190 villages in Lower Shabelle’s lower region.
