AFRICOM Gets a New Commander

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has received a new commander.

Lt. Gen. Michael Langley takes over as the new AFRICOM Commander from Gen. Stephen Townsend.

On August 6, the US Senate voted to confirm Lt. Gen. Langley’s appointment as the new AFRICOM chief.

Gen. Townsend has been in charge of AFRICOM for the last three years.

Lt. Gen. Langley’s appointment is historic considering that he is the first Black 4-Star general in the history of the Marine Corps.

Langley has served in various stations around the world and has a rich history.

Some of the stations he has served at include Afghanistan and Japan. He also served in Somalia.

The new AFRICOM commander has commanded at every possible level too. These include platoon, regiment, and every other level in between.
