Air Djibouti Launches Maiden Puntland Flight

On Thursday, Air Djibouti launched its maiden Puntland flight. In the process, it has joined a list of international airlines flying into Somalia.

The first flight by the Djibouti-owned carrier was on Sunday. The plane flew into Garowe one week after the carrier announced plans to launch direct flights to the Horn of Africa nation.

Several dignitaries were at the Garowe Airport to witness this historic moment. Among them were the Vice President of Puntland and other top government officials.

Recently, Puntland’s economic growth has attracted several investors. Air Djibouti becomes the latest premier carrier to invest in the region’s growing aviation industry.

Air Djibouti follows hot on the heels of the decision by Ethiopian Airlines to launch direct flights to Garowe. Their operations are likely to boost trade in Puntland while easing air travel.
