Al-Shabaab Claims it Controls Daynunay after Two Days of Fighting

Al-Shabaab claims that its militants remain in control of Daynunay after two days of intense fighting with government forces.

The terrorist group released a statement through sympathetic media sources on Friday.

In the statement, the militia group claims that its fighters are now completely in control of the area, which is roughly 18kms to the east of Baidoa town.

It also mentioned casualties but just fell short of saying how many died or suffered injuries.

The intermittent fighting that has pervaded the region in the last two days took place amid differences over the leadership of President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.

President Laftagareen is the leader of the regional state of Southwest.

In recent days, tension has rocked the region after reports emerged that President Laftagareen intends to extend his term in office.
