Al-Shabaab Launch Deadly Attack in Middle Shabelle’s Adan Yabal Town

On Wednesday morning, April 16, 2025, Al-Shabaab militants launched a significant attack on Adan Yabal town in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region. This town, located approximately 220 kilometers north of Mogadishu, had been a strategic stronghold for Al-Shabaab until Somali National Army (SNA) forces, supported by local militias known as Ma’awisley, recaptured it in December 2022.

The recent assault involved intense gunfire between the militants and Somali troops, with local residents also participating in the defense. Casualties have been reported on both sides, although specific numbers are yet to be confirmed. This marks one of several attempts by Al-Shabaab to reclaim Adan Yabal since their ousting, highlighting the group’s persistent efforts to regain control over strategic locations in the region.

The Somali government, in collaboration with regional forces and international partners, continues to conduct military operations aimed at countering Al-Shabaab’s influence and ensuring the security of recaptured areas. Efforts are also underway to restore essential services and infrastructure in towns like Adan Yabal to support stability and development.
