Reports from the Somalia-Kenya border indicate that Al-Shabaab suffered huge losses when several of its fighters were killed during intense fight with Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers.
The fighting took place in Mandera, which is a notoriously volatile region.
According to multiple sources, the militants have been crossing the border from Somalia to Kenya for several months now.
On Monday, September 21, they ambushed a KDF convoy in Mandera County.
A fierce gunfight then broke out between the two sides causing Al-Shabaab to incur huge losses when five of its fighters were killed.
Their colleagues then escaped into Somalia where under heavy pursuit by security agents from the neighboring countries.
Sources privy to the incident say that it took place in Lafey.
Security agents from Kenya are yet to confirm the casualties they suffered. However, unconfirmed reports indicate that one KDF soldier was killed while two others were injured.
