Somalia’s Ambassador to Nigeria has called upon foreign diplomats in Mogadishu to visit senior Somali government officials only after consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Jamal Barrow expressed his displeasure at the trend that has been happening a lot in Mogadishu for quite some time now.
Many foreign diplomats hold meetings with senior Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) officials without informing the foreign affairs ministry.
He spoke on Sunday, June 5.
Ambassador Barrow accused the foreign envoys of “roaming” government offices to meet top Somali leaders.
He proceeded to add that their governments back home would never allow Somali diplomats to do what they do in Mogadishu.
Consequently, he has asked the foreign affairs ministry to develop a code of conduct for all diplomats in Somalia.
