Ambulances Prevented from Evacuating Victims of Mogadishu Clashes

Government forces have been accused of preventing emergency medical evacuations of the victims of Friday’s clashes in Mogadishu.

Several people received gunshot wounds that needed quick medical attention when government troops clashed with security forces that were guarding opposition candidates.

Several protesters were injured.

Many others were killed.

Three doctors and personnel working for Aamin Ambulance, a firm that provides free emergency medical services, said that the military stopped them from evacuating the injured.

Dr. Aweys Abdullahi, who was in one of the ambulances, confirmed the incident to the press.

He confirmed that the military officers refused to direct them to where the injured were located despite constant pleas.

Isak Mohamed, who works for Aamin Ambulance too, reiterated Dr. Abdullahi’s assertions.

Mohamed said that they received three calls from people at the scene. Sadly, the military closed the roads with barriers thus ensuring the ambulance could not access the injured.
