African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) donated non-food items to help Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Beledweyne.
The district in HirShabelle has seen an increase in the number of IDPs following heavy rains that caused huge floods in the region in recent months.
AMISOM donated an assortment of blankets, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, and basins to hundreds of people in the region.
The donation was organized by the Djiboutian and Ethiopian contingent of AMISOM.
Lt. Ibrahim Yusuf Ahmed, an officer with AMISOM Sector IV Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), delivered the donations to Mohamed Ahmed Abdi, HirShabelle’s Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
While handing the items over, Lt. Ahmed said that the soldiers had donated 800 tents, 800 household utensils, 1,000 blankets, and 800 plastic washbasins to mention a few.
Several top government officials were at the handing over ceremony.
These included Sheikh Hussein Osman, the Deputy Governor of Hiran Region. Other senior officers from the HirShabelle government attended the ceremony too.
