African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) held a blood donation campaign in Mogadishu on February 2.
AMISOM’s Police Unit organized the drive to boost blood bank in preparation for emergencies that could arise in the region.
Private David Oloi, Medical Officer in charge of AMISOM’s FHQ Level 1 Hospital in Mogadishu, supervised the drive.
Oloi said that his officers would screen all blood donated to ensure that it is medically suitable and safe for transfusion.
He also mentioned that the blood drive was necessitated by reports that AMISOM’s Level II Hospital has run out of blood.
The medical officer confirmed that AMISOM was able to collect up to 20 pints of blood in the February 2 exercise.
