AMISOM Launches Environmental Protection Programs in Somalia

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has launched environmental protection programs in Somalia.

Details on the programs were contained in a document launched on Wednesday August 19.

In the document, AMISOM highlighted the environmental protection guidelines it expects all its personnel to adhere to while serving in the East African nation.

The organization launched the document known as AMISOM Environmental Protection and Management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) virtually.

Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Special Representative of the AU’s Chairperson, launched the document.

He said AMISOM troops are not only focused or mandated to fight Al-Shabaab and other extremists in the country.

Ambassador Madeira indicated that AMISOM troops are interested in enabling Somalis to live in safe and secure environment.

He said SOPs provide details of each AMISOM personnel’s duties and responsibilities where the protection of the environment is concerned.
