The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has welcomed a new contingent of police officers from Ghana.
The Formed Police Unit comprises 147 officers.
According to AMISOM, the officers are to be based in the Southwest State of Somalia, where they are scheduled to help Somali Police Force (SPF).
The Ghanaian squadron is also to be based specifically in Baidoa.
AMISOM expects them to help to bolster security in the region, especially as Somalia prepares for upcoming elections.
