African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is to launch investigations into the deadly Golweyn incident in Lower Shabelle.
This follows reports that the seven people AMISOM troops killed might have been civilians.
Initially, AMISOM reported that its officers fought with militants who had laid an ambush for them and killed seven of them while injuring many others.
Later, reports emerged stating that the dead might have been civilians.
The incident took place on Tuesday, August 10.
On Wednesday, AMISOM released a press statement promising to investigate the matter thoroughly to ascertain whether the dead were actually civilians or militants.
In its statement, AMISOM said that it adheres to the International Humanitarian Law (IHL), which requires it to investigate such matters and be above reproach.
