African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops fended off an ambush by Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shabelle on August 10.
A press release from AMISOM headquarters shows that its officers were ambushed while patrolling the Beldamin-Golweyn route.
The route is crucial as a supply line in the region.
AMISOM troops were on their way between the two destinations as part of their efforts of securing the vital supply route.
However, they encountered an ambush.
During the incident, AMISOM soldiers shot and killed seven of the militants. Several other extremists suffered injuries.
AMISOM also announced that it recovered an assortment of weapons from the extremists.
The organization’s commanders commended the soldiers for the bravery they displayed in fending off the militant group’s ambush.
One soldier was injured in the fracas.
