AMISOM Troops to Distribute Medical Aid in Lower Shabelle

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops plan to distribute medical aid to communities in the Lower Shabelle region.

The medical aid and consumables are donations from the AMISOM troops in the region.

On Saturday, AMISOM received a donation of antacids, antibiotics, analgesics, anthelmintic, assortment of vitamins, and antifungals from the Mogadishu-based US Civil Affairs Unit.

An American not-for profit organization, a Gift to the World, donated the supplies to US Civil Affairs Unit’s Captain Alan Goodman.

Thereafter, Captain Alan Goodman handed over the supplies to AMISOM Sector 1 Air Defense’s Commander Colonel Ismail Sendagire.

According to Col. Sendagire, the donation would go a long way into addressing some of the health challenges that the locals experience.

He said a combination of inter-clan fighting, perennial flooding, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Al-Shabaab menace has made it impossible for local communities to access quality services.

The AMISOM troops in the region are now expected to start distributing the supplies to medical officers and facilities in the region.
