Acting US Defense Secretary Visits Mogadishu

The Acting US Defense Secretary, Christopher Miller, was in Mogadishu on November 27 on a surprise visit.

Miller was appointed the Acting Defense Secretary after President Donald Trump sacked his predecessor, Mark T. Esper.

Esper had stood up against President Trump’s desire to use the US military to quell protests that rocked the country following the brutal murder of George Floyd by police officers.

Miller’s surprise trip to Mogadishu comes hot on the heels of reports that Trump wants to withdraw US troops from Somalia and other hotspots of violence around the world.

While in Mogadishu, Miller met US military personnel whom he celebrated Thanksgiving with on Friday.
