The Political Affairs Unit of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has urged Somali women to vie in the upcoming elections.
The Unit held a workshop in Mogadishu featuring several legislators, government officers, and youth participants.
Aspiring parliamentarians were also present at the workshop.
AMISOM organized the session on Monday, November 2.
All participants agreed to encourage women in Somalia to take part in the local and parliamentary polls scheduled later this year.
Somalia is to hold parliamentary polls this year followed by presidential elections in February 2021.
Participants also agreed to fight for the implementation of the quota system.
Somali women and human rights groups have been agitating for the implementation of the 30 percent women representation for decades.
Barriers standing on the path of women who wish to take part in politics and occupy leadership positions were also discussed.
One participant, Amina Mohamed, a member of the House of Representatives, urged aspiring women politicians to form a coalition as a solution for overcoming the challenges they face.
